Septic Systems
In the most basic terms, a typical septic system consists of a means of separating the liquid wastes (dispersed to the outer system) from the solid wastes (held in the septic tank). With proper maintenance, these systems can last 10 – 20 years. We recommend pumping every 3 years. Soil drainage is an important factor in determining the best system for your home. Options include dry wells, leach fields, sand filters, or the newest and best system which is the Jet Aerobic Treatment Unit (Jet ATU). With 50 years of experience, the experts at Thresher Septic Service can answer your questions, provide you with options, and help you make the best decision for your needs.

Septic Tank Pumping
In addition to separating the liquid and solid wastes, the septic tank also provides partial treatment of the septic waste through anaerobic (without oxygen) biological action on microbes within the tank, but not all can be broken down. Over time, these solids build up and need to be pumped out. We recommend pumping septic tanks every 3 years. If these solids are not pumped out, they will be pushed into the outer system. The pores of the outer system will then get plugged and this will cause the eventual failure of the septic system. This would be like driving your car 50,000 miles without changing the oil. Don’t wait! Call the experts at Thresher Septic Service.

Jet Aerobic Treatment Unit
Jet Aerobic Treatment Units (Jet ATU) are the newest and best systems to treat liquid and solid wastes. They operate up to 5X longer than a septic tank system and are capable of treating 1,500 gallons of wastewater daily, so weekend guests, multiple bathrooms, etc., are no problem. Wastewater is thoroughly mixed with oxygen (aerobic) so a clear liquid, with no color or odor, is then discharged, saving money and helping to protect the environment. This type of tank still needs to be pumped every 3 years. We have a 2-year service agreement which provides free service and inspection for 2 years after installation. Real Estate Septic System Inspections
When a residence is being sold, the mortgage lender will most often require a septic pump and visual inspection or a dye test. A septic inspection can yield useful information on the condition of the system as it exists when the system is pumped. While a septic system inspection can’t predict the future of the system, it can uncover defects which can save the purchaser unexpected expenses. We perform a very thorough inspection and share our findings to educate both the seller and prospective buyer. Call the experts at Thresher Septic System.
